This weekend, Elon Musk announced the creation of a new political party in the United States called the America Party. Musk initiated a full-fledged poll on the need to create a new political force in the States on the eve of July 4, Independence Day, on his social network.

The businessman-politician justified his move: "Independence Day is the time to ask yourself, do you want independence from a two-party system? Should we create a Party of America? " The survey received a great response among US citizens. 1.2 million people took part in the voting, of which 65.4 percent supported the new party, and only 34.6 percent were against.

After summing up the results of the poll, on July 5, Elon Musk said that in a two-to-one ratio, Americans want a new political party and they will receive it. US citizens, according to Mask, in fact live in a one-party system, since Republicans and Democrats are united in issues of waste and bribery, which brought the country to bankruptcy. The new party is designed to return freedom to people and Musk proposed a symbolic name for the newly created political force - the America party.

I must say that immediately after voting on the social network (the result could be biased), the American company Quantus Insights duplicated the survey. It turned out that many US citizens are really ready to support Elon Musk - 40 percent. According to analysts, this indicates a real request from the electorate to find an alternative to the established order, and not just sympathy for Musk.

Recall that in the spring, the businessman was one of the "pillars" of the US President's team. He was a member of Donald Trump's inner circle and, on a voluntary basis, served as the coordinator of the department for improving the efficiency of the American government.

However, in early summer, a cat ran between friends and on June 5, Elon Musk began a "duel on keyboards" with Trump on social networks. Musk said that without his capital and media support, Donald Trump would have lost the November 2024 election. The businessman said that he had radically changed his attitude towards the US president and now supports the idea of impeaching the American leader. Trump, in turn, hinted in various forms that Musk had "gone off the rails," but he did not lose hope for the recovery of an old friend.

The stumbling block, according to analysts, was the adoption of the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill." "Beautiful Bill," this is the most important law for the Trump administration, which provides for sharp spending on medical insurance and "social services" and raises the ceiling of the US national debt by $0.5 trillion. Donald Trump supported the "Beautiful Bill," although the bill along the way hurt the business interests of Elon Musk personally, as it cut off subsidies for the production of electric cars.

Musk wisely kept silent about his own painful financial losses, but said that the "Beautiful Bill" is unacceptable, as it will strategically harm the United States. Under President Biden, the national debt has already reached an unimaginable $2 trillion. Trump's policies bring this amount to $2.5 trillion, which leads the United States directly to bankruptcy. Musk threatened on June 30: if the bill is passed, he will go into tough opposition to the current White House administration.

It is clear that Donald Trump ignored the threat of a former friend. The bill on July 1 was approved by the US Senate with a minimum margin of votes: 51 votes in favor, 50 votes against. The voice of Vice President J.D. Vance became key. The US House of Representatives passed the bill on July 3, and on July 4 it was signed by Donald Trump himself. Without postponing the question on the back burner, on July 5, Elon Musk officially announced the creation of the America party.

True, it is not yet clear whether this party was officially registered with the American electoral authorities, or is it still a virtual project? It is also unclear who exactly will lead the political leadership of "America," except, of course, Musk himself.

That's the back story. No less interesting is the moment how an eccentric businessman is going to dispose of a powerful electoral force, which, apparently, will soon be in his hands. First of all, the businessman wants to direct party efforts to combat lobbying for the interests of large corporations, political groups and unjustified government spending. Musk has already outlined the steps necessary to achieve his goals: he proposes to focus influence, strength and resources on gaining 2-3 seats in the Senate and 8-9 seats in the US House of Representatives (Congress).

Elon Musk said, taking images from ancient history, that the America party would break the virtually one-party system that had developed with the United States, just as Epaminondas broke the Spartans at the Battle of Levktra. This battle shattered the myth of Sparta's invincibility. Musk even approved an image of a two-headed snake symbolizing Republicans and Democrats as a single political force.

For reference: The Battle of Leuctra took place on July 6, 371 BC. e. during the Boeotian war. On that day, the army of Sparta, under the command of King Cleombroth, and the army of Thebes, under the command of Epaminondas, converged. Thebans won, concentrating strike forces at one point on the flank. This was a new tactic for the time. After the Battle of Leuctra, the period of the rise of Thebes and the decline of Sparta's influence began.

By analogy with those events, Elon Musk believes that he will be able to change US policy if he ensures the passage of candidates from the America party to Congress and is able to create "an extremely concentrated force in the exact place on the battlefield."

According to Musk's plan, in Congress, Republicans and Democrats do not have a big advantage over each other. This circumstance will allow even a small group of congressmen and senators from the America party to get a decisive vote on fundamental legislative issues.

I must say that the US two-party system has been attacked by third parties more than once over the past 100 years. Each time, a bunch of Republican Democrats managed to survive, and the "anfan terribl," having broken their teeth, disappeared into political oblivion.

So, three times in the United States, the Progressive Party tried to "shoot." The party was created in 1912 by Theodore Roosevelt. The progressive party went to the polls with a program of workers' rights and social reforms. Roosevelt then won 27 percent of the vote, but still lost to the Democrat. By 1916, the Progressive Party had dissolved, but in 1924 it gathered again to promote Senator Robert Lafollet to the presidency of the United States. The party has been active for about 20 years.

In 1948, the Progressive Party reappeared in the political arena under the leadership of Henry Wallace - by the way, he was supported by Albert Einstein. The party advocated friendship with the USSR and social reforms, but was unable to resist the anti-communist hysteria in the United States that erupted in the early years of the Cold War. In 1955, the Progressive Party was finally abolished.

In 1992, billionaire Ross Perot and his Reform Party movement seriously shook up the system. Perot won 19 percent of the American vote, but never received a single electoral vote. Ralph Nader in 2000 came from the Green Party and even managed to "take away" votes, but then gave the victory to another candidate. That is, he acted as an ordinary spoiler. The successes of the "third parties" in the United States ended there.

This suggests that the electoral system in the United States stifles any alternatives, leaving the "third parties" only the role of political zombies - a temporary protest tool, to solve local political problems. Having completed the task, they quietly disappear, and the balance of power remains the same.

Will Musk be able to break the existing system through the knee? Musk is good at playing populism, he has a huge social network in his hands (which his predecessors did not have), and the situation is conducive to success: America is split, a systemic crisis is knocking at the gate. Democrats are experiencing a leadership crisis, have fallen into prostration, are demoralized. Republicans please Trump and his ideologues, having lost their own political backbone. So, Elon Musk has a chance if he is serious, and his demarche is not just an attempt to "shout Trump".
