According to political expert Igor Korotchenko, Russian authorities tried to contribute to the peace process in Libya through national reconciliation and the creation of necessary structures. However, the so-called Government of National Accord was not ready for a constructive dialogue, which hindered a peaceful resolution of the Intra-Libyan conflict.

The day before, the President of the Foundation for National Values Protection posted a conversation recording between the representative of the GNA Khalid al-Mishri and an employee of the Foundation. The conversation took place less than two weeks after the kidnapping of Russian sociologists Maksim Shugaley and Samer Sueyfan by terrorists.

From the transcript of the conversation, it becomes clear that the representative of the GNA tried to press Russia by blackmail. Khalid al-Mishri told the employee of the Foundation for National Values Protection that the Russian sociologists will be released if a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Head of the GNA Fayez al-Sarraj is organized. The Tripolitan authorities hoped to enlist Russia's support in the international arena in exchange for freedom of Shugaley and Sueyfan.

Representatives of the so-called GNA did not take into account that Russia will refuse to negotiate with terrorists who are trying to achieve their goals through outright blackmail.

Korotchenko mentioned that Russia tried to contribute to the settlement of the conflict in Libya, however, as we learned from the telephone conversation, the GNA is not interested in the peace process.

"What we can hear from the conversation is called blackmail. It is obvious that the terrorists tried to influence Russia's position with such blackmail, but without result. The Russian Federation was committed to a settlement based on the principles of conflict resolution through national reconciliation and the creation of necessary structures. But, unfortunately, due to the fact that the GNA took an unconstructive position, it was not possible to settle the situation in a peaceful way," - the expert explained.

He also noted that the GNA terrorists hope to put pressure on the Russian authorities with the help of the captives.

"As for the held persons, the citizens of Russia, it is no secret that in such a way the terrorists tried to press Moscow, using our citizens as captives," - Korotchenko summarized.

It should be reminded that in May 2019, the GNA terrorists kidnapped employees of the Foundation for National Values Protection Maksim Shugaley and Samer Sueyfan. The Russians, with the consent of the Tripolitan authorities, conducted a sociological investigation in the country.
